How to replace your PDQ 6200 Exit Device

PDQ 6200 Exit Device Parts & Replacement Options

We’ve received many inquiries about replacement parts for the PDQ 6200 Exit Device. If you’ve been searching for them, you may know that this model has been discontinued. The PDQ 6200 wide-stile exit device was superseded by the PDQ 6300 Exit Device, while the PDQ 6202 narrow-stile model was replaced by the PDQ 6400 Exit Device.

Until March 2025, some parts were still available through the factory, particularly the PDQ 6200 end caps, but as of now, they have all been sold out!

What Are Your Options?

If you have a PDQ 6200 exit device, here’s what you need to know about replacing it:

✅ The Good News

The newer PDQ 6300 Exit Device has the same bolt hole pattern as the Von Duprin 99 Exit Device. This means that if you have a Von Duprin 99 panic bar with Von Duprin trim on the outside and need a replacement, the PDQ 6300 panic exit device is a direct alternative!

You can also use an Alarm Lock exit trim designed for the Von Duprin 99, which will bolt directly onto the PDQ 6300.

❌ The Bad News

The PDQ 6300 exit device does not have the same bolt pattern as the PDQ 6200 exit device. If you are replacing a PDQ 6200 panic bar, you will need to drill new holes for the new model to fit.

Can You Use a PDQ 6200 Trim on a PDQ 6300?

Many customers ask whether they can reuse their PDQ 6200 exterior trim with the new PDQ 6300 exit device. Unfortunately, the answer is no — the bolt hole locations are different, meaning you must replace both the exit device and the trim.

However, this isn’t a dealbreaker! PDQ offers a metal drilling template (Part Number 631013W), which allows you to easily drill the new holes in the correct locations.

How to Install a PDQ 6300 in Place of a PDQ 6200

If you’re upgrading to a PDQ 6300 Exit Device, the easiest way to ensure a smooth installation is by using PDQ’s metal drilling template.

Steps for Installation:

  1. Secure the template to the door with a C-clamp.
  2. Align it properly to ensure accurate drilling.
  3. Drill the new holes next to the old ones.
  4. Install the PDQ 6300 exit device securely in place.

The template makes it much easier to transition from the PDQ 6200 exit device to the PDQ 6300 without guesswork!
